Ærkebispedømmet af Nicea
Metropolen Nikæa ( græsk Μητρόπολις Νικαίας ) er et ortodoks bispedømme i den ortodokse kirke i Konstantinopel med centrum i byen Nicaea i Tyrkiet .
Historie
I 325 afholdtes møder i Det Første Økumeniske Råd i Nicaea , og i 787 - Det Syvende Økumeniske Råd .
Den nikæiske metropol forblev et væsentligt centrum for patriarkatet i Konstantinopel, indtil det blev erobret af de osmanniske tyrkere i 1331, hvorefter den kristne befolkning i bispedømmet begyndte at falde hurtigt på grund af den græske befolknings flugt og islamiseringen af resten. Som et resultat blev stiftscentret flyttet til Chios . Metropolen forblev aktiv indtil katastrofen i Lilleasien og den efterfølgende tvungne befolkningsudveksling mellem Grækenland og Tyrkiet i begyndelsen af 1920'erne. Derefter ophørte afdelingen faktisk med at eksistere og flyttede ind i kategorien titulære.
