Francis Raymond ("Ray") Fosberg ( Eng. Francis Raymond Fosberg ; 20. maj 1908 , Spokane , Washington - 25. september 1993 , Falls Church , Virginia ) - amerikansk botaniker .
Biografi
Francis Raymond Fosberg blev født 20. maj 1908 i Spokane , Washington . Fosbergs barndom blev tilbragt i Turlock , Californien . I 1930 modtog han en Bachelor of Arts in Botany fra Pomona College . Fosberg arbejdede derefter på Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History , hvor han studerede vegetationen på Kanaløerne og Sonoran-ørkenen . I 1932 flyttede han til Honolulu og begyndte at arbejde på University of Hawaii som assistent for Harold St. John . I 1934 deltog han sammen med Saint John i Charles Montagu Cookes Mangarev-ekspedition . Botanikere bragte over 15.000 planteeksemplarer fra Polynesien . I 1937 modtog Fosberg sin M.Sc. fra University of Hawaii, i 1939 modtog han sin Ph.D. fra University of Pennsylvania . Fra 1951 arbejdede Ray for US Geological Survey . Francis Raymond Fosberg døde den 25. september 1993 i Falls Church .
