Biografi

Johann Georg Christian Lehmann blev født i Haselau den 25. februar 1792 [5] .

Lehmann studerede medicin i Göttingen og København [5] . I 1813 modtog han doktorgraden i medicin, og et år senere - doktorgraden i filosofi ved Friedrich Schiller Universitetet i Jena [5] .

I 1817 udgav Johann Georg Christian Lehmann Monographia generis Primularum , et værk der gjorde ham berømt [2] . I 1818 udgav han Plantae e familiae Asperifoliarum nuciferae descripsit Joannes Georgius Christianus Lehmann , i 1820 Monographia generis Potentillarum , og i 1821 Icones et descriptiones novarum et minus cognitarum stirpium [2] [6] .

Lehmans videnskabelige resultater blev ikke anerkendt [5] . Han var medlem af 26 videnskabelige selskaber [5] , herunder et udenlandsk korresponderende medlem af St. Petersburgs Videnskabsakademi (1822). Leman ydede et væsentligt bidrag til botanikken og beskrev mange plantearter [ 7] .

Johann Georg Christian Lehmann døde i Hamborg den 12. februar 1860 [5] .
