Protopolybi

Protopolybia   (lat.)  er en slægt af sociale hvepse af Vespidae- familien . Omkring 30 arter [3] .

Fordeling

Neotropisk : Central- og Sydamerika; 1 art er endemisk for Mexico [4] .

Beskrivelse

Små sociale hvepse (for eksempel er størrelsen af ​​arbejdere i Protopolybia exigua omkring 5 mm). Familier indeholder fra 30 til flere hundrede aktive arbejdshvepse. Arterne af denne slægt etablerer ligesom mange andre repræsentanter for stammen Epiponini nye reder ved sværmning [4] . Palp formel 6.4 (mandibular + mandibular). Sammensatte øjne uden børster. Ocellia er små. Occipital carina til stede. Top af clypeus og metanotum afrundet; forkant (køl) af pronotum kort, stump. Scutellum er forholdsvis fladt. Den propodiale carina er fraværende [3] .
